First Night Austin
First Night Austin is a public celebration of the arts that revives the ancient tradition of marking the passage of time with art, ritual, and festivity. Don’t be confused by the name of the event. First Night Austin 2009 takes place on the last day of this year, December 31, 2008, as we collectively look ahead to welcome the New Year with hope and optimism.
Our mission is to provide Austinites and Central Texas with a free, family-friendly, intergenerational, alcohol-free, public celebration, showcasing the unique culture of Austin through expressive, diverse, and creative traditions in the performing and visual arts.
Texas Avenue Films
Texas Avenue Films is a local production company founded by Anne Walker-McBay. She has produced many movies that helped define the film community in Austin, such as Dazed and Confused, SubUrbia, and Slacker. Anne has also produced Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, The Newton Boys, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, and Infamous. Texas Avenue Films’ most recent project was The 2 Bobs, a comedy about the greatest video game developers of all time.
FILM SCIENCE, LLC
Film Science, an independent film production company based in Austin, Texas, focuses on creating and developing feature films and specialty content. Formed by Anish Savjani in 2005, Film Science has completed several projects since its inception, including Kelly Reichardt’s Old Joy, Steve Collins’ Gretchen and Joe Swanberg’s Hannah Takes the Stairs. Film Science is also producing new features from Reichardt (Train Choir) and Swanberg (Nights and Weekends), as well as Spencer Parsons’ upcoming I’ll Come Running. Film Science is committed to the utilization of innovative technologies within all facets of the industry. A number of projects by up-and-coming filmmakers are currently in development.

The Austin chapter of the IGDA (www.igda.org/austin) is a nonprofit advocacy group for the video games industry in Austin, Texas. Our goals are focused on strengthening professional game development in the Austin area by fostering a sense of community amongst game developers, attracting and retaining talent in Austin, and showcasing Austin as an excellent game development community. We hold events, parties, and professional development panels for Austin game developers as well as those soon-to-be game developers.
